Australia's Great Natural Wonder.!

How We Can Help!

With Global warming and climate change we eagerly need to make a change it involves everybody doing there bit to help out, so that the reef can be here for future years to come.

TIPS FOR PEOPLE AT HOME:

  • - Recycle everything, from plastics, papers, batteries and mobile phones.
  • - Buy foods that come in packaging that can be recycled.
  • - Dont wash your car where the water is likely to go into the drain.
  • - Use enviromentally friendly household cleaners, and garden products.
  • - Manage the amount of water you use. (have shorter showers)
  • - Dont litter, throw your rubbish and if you see rubbish in the bin.
  • - When and if you go to the Great Barrier Reef, don't break off peices of coral to take home with you as coral takes thousands and thousands of years to form.
  •   - If you decide to go fishing, make sure you have a permit and you dont over fish. Make sure your ONLY fish in areas that are pemitted to fishing. Dont dump your wastes in the ocean either.

TIPS FOR DIVERS & SNORKELERS

  • Before booking a reef trip, check weather conditions; it's best not to go out in rough seas. Poor visibility, strong winds & waves reduce safe interaction at the reef.
  • Remember that even the lightest touch with hands or equipment can damage sensitive coral polyps.
  • Snorkelers should wear float-coats to allow gear adjustments without standing on the coral.
  • Avoid contact with the ocean bottom, divers should only use the weight needed and practice proper buoyancy control. Lifeless areas may support new growth, if left undisturbed.
  • Please don't feed the fish; it destroys their natural feeding habits, and you might be injured.
  • Remember, it's illegal to harvest coral in Florida and purchasing it at local shops only depletes reefs elsewhere.
